The Vallcarca Library and the Penitents - M. Antonieta Cot was inaugurated on October 10, 2011 and serves the neighborhoods of Penitents, Vallcarca and Coll, Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera. It is named after M. Antonieta Cot, at the initiative of the Women's Council of Gràcia, in recognition of the work of disseminating Catalan culture carried out by this neighboring librarian of Gràcia during the Franco years.
The building, newly built, occupies an area of 1,225 square meters distributed over four floors. The executive project is the work of the architects Joan Íñiguez and Carles Lladó (Illa Arquitectes).
Our mission is to facilitate free access to information, knowledge and culture, as well as to play an active role in promoting reading, the use of new technologies and the dissemination of music.
