The equipment supports and assignment of spaces to neighborhood organizations, promotes community projects such as Time Bank, the clothes closet children, a group photo or St. Andrew in action, among others, and where s 'there are workshops, lectures, conferences and events for all residents.

Set in an area where there were the XIX industries engaged in the manufacture of cotton yarn and linen. One of the most important was the Barceloneta Lanera Society, better known as Can Portabella. In 2007 it overthrew the latest facilities and we only retained the palace, which is popularly known as House of Amo. The two storey housing was restored as a neighborhood center and became existing equipment Can Portabella.

The restoration works have allowed the equipment to grow by more than 200 square meters with the back of a plant and the expansion towards the east façade. On the ground floor there is a hall for 75 persons, a storage services and spaces for the St. Andrew South Neighborhood Association; The first floor is ready to house social organizations of the district, and the second is to make rooms for workshops and an outdoor terrace. And now the gardens of the building communicate with Square Can Portabella and there is a direct exit to the streets of Virgil and Josep Soldevila.

Inside the building, left a rehabilitation center open atrium with a skylight on the front side that provides natural light and will help to reduce energy consumption of the equipment, which have been installed also installed photovoltaic panels.
