Barcelona City Council works to guarantee the social rights of people with functional diversity through the Municipal Institute of Persons with Disabilities (IMPD), an autonomous body born in 1979 that has been evolving to adapt to new needs and organizational changes.
At the IMPD we offer some direct care services to people and we work with the rest of the City Council and with entities to extend the concepts of accessibility and inclusion, understanding that people with functional diversity must not only to be able to physically access all the spaces, activities and services of the city, but they must also be able to participate at any level, with the same conditions and opportunities as the rest of the public.
IMPD's services are grouped into two main types. On the one hand, those aimed directly at citizens and organizations, which offer resources to improve people's quality of life. On the other hand, those of a more internal nature, aimed both at the search for new solutions (through research and collaboration with international organizations and networks of cities, companies and entities) and at supporting the rest of the 'municipal organization in order to achieve a more accessible and inclusive city.
