Since 1972, the Poblenou Neighbors Association has been working to defend the right of Poblenou residents to live in a neighborhood with the necessary services and infrastructure. During the first years of our organization's life, the decade of the 70s, the service to the neighborhood was logically joined by activism against the dictatorship. With time and the change in the political situation, leaders of the first batch left the Neighborhood Association to try to change the model of society from the institutions. However, the Association continued forward driven by the new challenges and the great deficits that the city suffered, becoming an indispensable instrument for social and urban transformation. Despite the newness of the democratic councils, the struggle and citizen mobilization was still necessary.
Today, the strong urban mutation that Poblenou is experiencing entails an obvious risk of social substitution, loss of heritage and weakening of human relationships. The Association of Neighbors continues to be a fundamental instrument for reporting, raising awareness and dialogue with the aim of preserving the neighborhood's identity, ensuring coexistence between all people regardless of origin and improving living conditions of the neighborhood
In a context of climate and housing emergency, we demand social facilities for a growing population, the improvement of the transport network, social housing, green areas, infrastructures and the promotion of sustainable urban industry.
Because the tasks are many and we do not provide scope for everything, we appeal to participate in the Association. Everyone can get involved at the level they want, we are an open group and a good reception is guaranteed. If you are not, you can start by becoming a member.
This daily commitment to the neighborhood has shaped a simple, but firm way of acting. We could summarize our ideology in this way:

• Neighbors must be the protagonists of our environment. We must feel the neighborhood as a collective space for all.
• Promote forms of participation and association to face the tendency towards individualization and dismemberment of the social fabric. It is important to unite ties in the face of the new diversity.
• In a world of conflicting interests, the neighborhood movement is heard when it has strength. This is only possible under three conditions: when he has indisputable arguments, when he gathers as many people as possible and when he has a fighting spirit.
• Transform the neighborhood. The purpose of the mobilization is to force all the agents involved, public administrations and others, to negotiate and reach concrete agreements. Protest and dialogue are both necessary.
• Have a global and supportive vision of the territory. The interests of Poblenou must be compatible with the interests of the city and vice versa.
• The Association of Neighbors will strive to find compatible solutions when various needs and interests converge in the same place, renouncing, however, to take part in those partisan causes or those that do not respond to a vision of solidarity in our society.
• As a social entity we do not define ourselves politically. We support or confront institutions not based on the political party that supports them but on the ideas and their proposals. Our organization is open to everyone who loves in the neighborhood.
• The Association of Neighbors and Neighbors is based on the voluntary work of its members. We do not always have the necessary availability to deal with all the problems that arise. We accept constructive criticism, from the responsibility of all.

In March 2007, the Poblenou Neighbors Association was certified as registered in the Code of Ethics of Barcelona Associations, with the corresponding guarantees of serious work, participation, economic transparency, sustainability and autonomous and supportive relationships.
