The Energy Research Institute of Catalonia (IREC) was created to contribute to the goal of making a more energy-sustainable future by bearing in mind economic competitiveness and providing society with maximum energy security.
This contribution is made from scientific and technological development. Research requires a long-term vision in order to identify the energy challenges of the future. The Institute, however, is also working on the development of technologies that will allow companies to implement immediate innovative solutions.
IREC is part of the economic system Catalan, Spanish and international, and that is why, in a unique and signified, its institutional patrons and business have joined efforts towards a common goal: the creation of value through the boosting scientific knowledge and technological development in the energy sector. A sector of global consequences that leads IREC to be within an area of international action, becoming a benchmark in some of its areas.
IREC is a research institute where people who know that through the Institute can contribute to drawing a more energetically sustainable future in an environment of excellence can participate.
As is well known, a balance needs to be struck between energy sustainable development, economic competitiveness and security of energy supply. Each country and situation seeks a different break-even point, but there are common goals: to reduce carbon emissions below 500 pmm by 2050.
In any case, the Institute was born within the framework of the energy and technological research policies of Catalonia, Spain and the European Union, which mark the long-term strategies.
IREC will help develop and implement new opportunities in the energy sector by committing to present and future social reality.
