Matas i Ramis Civic Centre is located in the district of Horta.

In 1903, the family Matas Ramis and commissioned the architect Bonaventura Conill Montobbio and the project of the building. Choosing Horta as a place to make the house was motivated by the fame of its pure air and sanitós.

In 1912 construction began on the building, which became one of the most significant examples of Modernism and as a home for her two children. They are two houses with a single façade. The building is one of the most significant examples of modernism. In two sons died heirs bequeathed the building to the City Council.

In 1956, Enric Matas Ramis bequeathed one of the two houses that make up the building and its bibliographic collection to the City Council so that it is a popular library.

Finally, in 1967 the City Council took over the building and remove the collections and furniture, depositing the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of City History.

In June 1986 inaugurated one of the houses as a district center.

In October 1992, both houses and annexes inaugurated as Matas i Ramis Civic Centre. In 2001, as a result of the increase in the activities and services of the center, forcing a new extension which opened in November of the same year.

DESCRIPTION

Terraced building with backyard access to the street Marti Alsina one side and the street Feliu i Codina in its main Bessant. Highlights the framing of openings, always based brick, the powerful eaves, protected by Moorish tiles glazed green on which they have numerous pieces of water out of the flat roof and supported by corbels the jagged brick.
