Jiwar Creation and Society has been for seven and a half years a space for the creation and residence of artists. The project is inspired by the Mediterranean tradition of JIWAR, an Arabic word that literally means neighborhood, evoking a philosophy of life that involves bringing values and connecting experiences. Jiwar’s residency has been an organic project that has meant, after all, a way of life for the people who have given themselves to the project and made it possible. During these years, we have wanted to give coherence to the project from a triple perspective integrating different disciplines in the same space: promoting interaction with the neighborhood and the city, creating creative dialogues with value and, emphasizing, will and resources special to host non-Western artists. 327 artists have passed through, 272 of them in Jiwar's own programs and the rest through collaborations with other institutions. Over the years, Jiwar has also consolidated several projects: Making neighborhood (5 editions), Xabaca (2 editions), Writing Program (5 editions), l'Hort de la Vila (in force since 2013), collaboration with Central Africa (5 editions) and the Exchange Program (2 editions with Tbilisi and Marrakech).
This first stage of the project now ends with the closure of the physical residence space. From now on, a new mental space opens up in which Jiwar can grow by working on content and from specific projects. This new space of possibilities would not be possible without the human wealth, professional experience, constant discovery and passion of these seven and a half years of residencies.
To all of you who have been a part of this wonderful journey, thank you so much.
Let's stay together!
