IDAEA is an institute of environmental sciences of the CSIC dedicated to the study of the human impact in the biosphere. Much of our research is focused on two of the great environmental challenges of our time: water and air quality and availability, guided by a scientific, systematic, and holistic understanding of these problems.

Founded in 2008, IDAEA was conceived as a new multidisciplinary research institute that brings together a wide range of competencies in environmental sciences and is organized into two major departments: Environmental Chemistry and Geosciences.

The institute stands out for the analysis of organic and inorganic pollutants and their impact on ecosystems, the study and management of water resources, the development of algorithms in chemometry and the study of respirable particles and toxic gases.

Recently IDAEA has been awarded the distinctive Center of Excellence "Severo Ochoa" (2020-2023), this distinction shows
high-quality scientific leadership and the overall impact of the work developed at the institute.
