In Barcelona, the Art Nouveau or Modernism takes on its own personality differentiated from the rest of Europe, with geniouses of Antoni Gaudí , LLuis Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig I Cadafalch. 
In this new city, lively and wealthy, young architects find the ideal setting for developing, free, modern, personal and creative new forms of expression. The legacy of the modernist architecture includes  several works that have been listed by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity.  
Antoni Gaudí was born in Reus in 1852 and later he moved to Barcelona for studying teaching. There he was fascinated by the ideals of utopian socialism and began to develop the idea of designing new buildings that symbolized, represented principles of equality and freedom. He went to study architecture at the prestigious school“La Llotja” in Barcelona, the same school which would later receive a young Pablo Picasso.
