At the beginning of 2022 we opened a participatory supermarket where you can fill your entire basket. These products have been chosen in accordance with the principles that drive the project, such as sustainability, proximity or fair treatment of producers and workers. This is a project open to everyone: you will only have to make a one-time contribution to the share capital of €90 (with the possibility of dividing it into four monthly installments) and participate with 3 hours a month in tasks at the supermarket. This way you will be a consumer partner and you can fill your basket with sustainable products. The contribution of 3 h per month will allow us to reduce supermarket expenses and lower product prices. In this way more people will have access to quality products.
If you don't want to consume at the supermarket but want to promote the project, be a collaborating partner. Just make the share capital contribution and you will be able to participate in decision-making.
At Foodcoop BCN everyone has a voice. As a cooperative supermarket, we are all owners and can actively participate in decision-making. The assembly is the space where you can express your opinion with your vote. For the development of the project we are organized in circles, where the members who want can participate actively. Currently there are those of Community and Care, Local, Operative, Purchases, Finances, ICT, Governance and Communication. In addition, specific work groups are also created to cover tasks defined in time.
Being a member of Foodcoop BCN means being an owner, participant and customer, all at the same time! It's a new and motivating consumer experience: you make your purchase but you're also part of the project's day-to-day life. This is a successful model with which new related initiatives have emerged in many cities in recent years, such as La Louve in Paris (more than 6,000 members), Bees Coop in Brussels (more than 3,000 members), or La Cagette in Montpellier. As well as throughout Catalonia and all of Spain: Manresa, Mataró, Madrid, the Basque Country, Zaragoza, Valencia, etc.
