  • Group ecological consumption
  • Support and mutual aid

The Bon Cistell offers you the possibility of collaborating with a project of great social and environmental value while buying vegetables and fruit and other fresh farm products.

We will not be able to offer you the cheapest prices on the market, nor will the zucchini from vegetable cream and tomato salad in the winter. But we can offer you principles:

-We are close: the vegetables we carry are what is known as km 0 (that is, at most it comes from 100 km) and, for the most part, the fruit you buy will come from the country (maximum 200 km). This causes our planet to heat up less, because we don’t burn as much fuel and need much less cooling.

-We are socially involved: the lettuce you will eat will have been grown by a person who lives in our reception and training project, and who has had to leave their country due to lack of opportunities. And the basket will be prepared for you by someone who, with your gesture, you will be helping to find their first job.

-We do what we do every season: the dish on the table will change depending on the time of year. Thus, you will contribute to crop rotations, essential for soil fertility, and food will be more nutritious.

-We take care of the land, animals and people: because we do not use synthetic chemicals to fight pests, we make the soil where we grow richer in microorganisms and thus maintain its fertility. In addition, we only use natural fertilizers (so we avoid releasing nitrogen into the environment that ends up causing greenhouse gases and pollution of rivers and seas). Our production and that of the products we bring you is ecological. And the eggs are from chickens that live with dignity.

-We strengthen the peasantry: we are part of a network of ecological farmers. So there are almost no middlemen, and when you buy apples and pears you will be helping the farmer who produced them to make a living from his work. If we want a living country, living in the countryside needs to be attractive.

-We make better use of resources such as water and land, in a time of scarcity: buying our vegetables also contributes, directly, to the forest management of the project farm, in Maçanet de la Selva, where we can use more efficient natural resources and thus strengthen the country's food self-sufficiency; otherwise, it would be a space with an excess of trees where a lot of water would be lost.

-We make the streets more livable: you have the option of coming to pick up the basket at the collection points we have in Barcelona or take it home. If you choose the second option, do not worry about transportation, because with our home delivery system with cargo bike, we greatly reduce the carbon footprint, the harmful effects of pollution on people and free up space for pedestrians.

The project is promoted by the Association for Cultural, Environmental and Human Development (CEHDA) in collaboration with the Parish of Sant Pacià in Barcelona.

CEHDA is a non-governmental organization founded in 2007 that works for the reception and social inclusion of newcomers, especially of African descent.
