It was contested for the first time in 1953 and since then the history of the trophy, given by the Conde de Godó, owner and host of the tournament, has been linked to that of the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona 1899.

The RCTB-1899 has a total of 20 tennis courts (18 clay courts, a fast court and an indoor court); five padel courts (two of them semi-covered and three aerial); a Wellness Center, equipped with advanced infrastructure and services, which focuses on fitness and health, and an indoor sports complex.
The Club also has restaurants, study rooms, changing rooms (men's, women's and youth) and a parking area.
