The APROP are community facilities on the ground floor, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments on the ground floor and have a green roof. They are conceived in accordance with modular technology and from the reuse of "last trip" maritime containers, fully assembled in any configuration, easy to assemble, disassemble and move to another site or reuse as construction elements in final works. The experience is inspired by successful proposals that already work in other cities such as Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Vancouver. The first experience in Barcelona is located at Carrer Nou de Sant Francesc, 8-10, in the Gothic Quarter. The neighbors are families from the emergency table and live there temporarily while waiting for permanent social housing.
APPROX Ciutat Vella consists of a structure made up of sixteen modules of old recycled and conditioned maritime containers that have been fitted together and that have given rise to a building of twelve accommodations: four have two bedrooms and 60 meters surface area and the other eight have one room and 30 square meters area. On the ground floor, there is an additional space in the CAP del Gòtic.
The innovative formula of building homes from recycling maritime containers represents a faster and more sustainable way than conventional ones. As these are modular and industrialized buildings, APROPs reduce waste by 58%, and the reuse of marine containers reduces CO2 emissions by 32%.
The energy certification of APROP is AA, so the energy consumption is four to six times lower than that of a conventional building with the same characteristics.
