Its main mission is to support the development of the tasks of the Department of Territory and Sustainability, as well as becoming an information reference center for research staff, professionals and interested citizens.

The mission of the Environmental Documentation Center is to provide documentary support to the activities and studies of the various areas related to the environment, and to provide assistance to professionals and researchers in order to meet their information needs.
A little history
The CDMA is a documentation center specializing in environmental issues that depends on the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
It began operating in 1991, when the Department of the Environment was created, which until now was a General Directorate that depended on the Department of Territorial Policy and Public Works.
From its creation until the end of 1997, it was restricted to the internal staff of the Department of the Environment, and by appointment, for public use.
At the beginning of 1997, a process of change began, with the main objective of enhancing the service to the external public, given that the environment is a topic of growing interest in society. This process led to staff changes, premises changes, and increased technological resources, among others.
In 1998 the CDMA catalog was incorporated into the CCUC (Collective Catalog of the Universities of Catalonia) and since 2002 it has been integrated into the BEG (Specialized Libraries of the Generalitat) catalog.
The CDMA is part of the network of natural space documentation centers. It is also part of the Network of Environmental Information and Documentation Centers (RECIDA), a state network created in 2002 that promotes coordination and collaboration between environmental documentation centers.
In December 2006, a collaboration agreement was signed with the University of Barcelona in order to establish synergies in the fields of knowledge between the CDMA and the Faculty of Biology.
It is currently part of the Library Network of the Department of Territory and Sustainability.
